In order to use eSIM, you will need a compatible device, an ALDI Mobile plan, and to follow our simple activation process when the service launches.

What happens to my physical SIM?

For new activations

When activating with a starter pack, you can use your voucher code during the eSIM setup process. Your physical SIM from the starter pack won't be activated.

For SIM swaps

Your entire service, including number, plan, and credit, transfers to the eSIM. The physical SIM permanently deactivates and should be disposed of responsibly.

One service, one SIM

Your service can only exist on one SIM at a time. You cannot split a service between physical SIM and eSIM or use both simultaneously for the same number.

How to install your eSIM

Once you receive your eSIM QR code:

On desktop
Use your mobile device camera to scan the QR code displayed on your screen.

On mobile device
There are two ways to install from a mobile device:

  • On supported phones only: Take a screenshot of the QR code, then open your photo gallery and tap the image to begin installation.
  • On a single device: Take a screenshot of the QR code. Visit your app store, download a QR code reader app then open the screenshot with the app and tap the image to begin installation.
  • For all devices: Use two separate devices - open the email containing the QR code on one device (like a tablet or another phone), then use the camera of the device where you want to install the eSIM to scan the code. Be careful to ensure you're installing on the intended device.

Once the eSIM profile is downloaded your device will guide you through the installation process. Once complete, your service will activate automatically.

For Family Plan users, remember that your service won't work for calls, messages or data until you accept the Family Plan invitation or add a plan or credit. If no action is taken within 10 days, the service will expire.

How to check if your device is compatible with eSIM

Not all phones work with eSIM. Before ordering or switching to eSIM, check if yours is compatible.

Most newer iPhones, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones since ~2020 support eSIM, but older models may not. If your phone isn't compatible, you'll need a physical SIM card instead.

Quick check

The easiest way to check is to dial *#06# on your phone. If you see an "EID" number, your phone likely supports eSIM. It's important to note that this check isn't always definitive though. Some phones (particularly those with specialist regional software) may show an EID but still have limited eSIM functionality in Australia.

How to activate your ALDI Mobile eSIM

Once your order is processed, we'll email you a QR code. To activate:
  1. Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi
  2. Go to your phone settings
  3. Look for "Mobile" or "Cellular" settings
  4. Select "Add eSIM" or "Add Cellular Plan"
  5. Scan the QR code we've emailed you
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions
  7. Once activated, restart your phone

Switching between ALDI Mobile eSIM and physical SIM

If you have an ALDI Mobile physical SIM and want to switch to eSIM, your number, credit and plan remain the same. You can order a physical SIM through our website or buy one from an ALDI store. Contact our Customer Service team to switch back to a physical SIM. This service can only exist on one SIM type at a time.

Transferring your ALDI Mobile eSIM to a new phone

If you get a new compatible phone, you'll need a new eSIM. Log into your My ALDI Mobile account to request a new eSIM for your SIM swap service. We'll send you a new QR code to scan on your new phone. Your phone number and plan remain the same.

What to do if you accidentally delete your eSIM

If you remove your eSIM from your phone by mistake, don't worry. Log into your My ALDI Mobile account or contact our Customer Service team to request a replacement QR code. We'll email you a new one so you can set up your service again.

Reporting a lost or stolen phone with an eSIM

If your phone is lost or stolen, contact us immediately to suspend your service. When you get a replacement phone, you can request a SIM swap via My ALDI Mobile, or contact us and we can issue a new eSIM QR code for you to activate on your new device. Your phone number and any remaining plan inclusions will transfer to the new eSIM.

Family Plans with ALDI Mobile eSIM

eSIMs work with all ALDI Mobile plans, including our Family Plans. If you're the Owner of a Family Plan, you can use an eSIM for your service, and your Users can choose an eSIM or physical SIM depending on their device compatibility and preference. Each eSIM service receives its own QR code. Note that Family Plan Users selected during activation will remember that the Family Plan Owner needs to send an invitation after the service activates.

eSIM activation without a starter pack

You can activate an eSIM without visiting a physical store. New customers can order online, so you don't need to visit a store or wait for delivery. New customers can apply voucher codes received from an existing starter pack during initial set-up. If you're already using ALDI Mobile, your current PAYG credit and plan will transfer from your physical SIM to your new eSIM when you perform a SIM swap via My ALDI Mobile.

Using your starter pack with eSIM activation

If you've purchased an ALDI Mobile starter pack but prefer to activate with eSIM instead of the physical SIM, you can still use the voucher code included in your starter pack during the eSIM activation process.
When choosing eSIM activation, you won't need to enter the activation code from the physical SIM. Your voucher code can be applied during your eSIM activation or a future physical SIM activation. However, once you've used the voucher code, it can't be used again for another service only and can't be used again.
Remember that if your starter pack remains valid for activating a completely new service in the future. You'll need the activation code printed on the SIM card for this process. However, if you've already used the voucher code for an eSIM activation, the physical SIM can't then be pre-loaded credit when activating. You'll need to do a plan or PAYG credit to this new service.
Remember that a voucher code from your one SIM starter pack can only be used once. The voucher code in your starter pack can only be applied to one service, whether that's an eSIM or physical SIM service.
