Non-compliant device on the mobile network

If you’ve received an SMS or email from ALDI Mobile about your device, linking to this page, it means our network provider has identified that your service is being used in a device that is not behaving as expected on the network.

This page explains what that means, what you need to do, and how it affects your ALDI Mobile service.

What’s happening

Our network provider continually monitors how devices behave on the mobile network to help keep services reliable for everyone.

In some cases, certain devices are found to be:

  • Causing interference on the mobile network
  • Not working in line with Australian regulatory requirements
  • Operating in ways that can impact other customers’ ability to connect

When this occurs, the affected devices may need to be blocked from the network unless the issue is resolved.

Why some devices need to be blocked

Mobile networks are designed with strict technical and regulatory standards so all devices can work together without causing problems for each other.

If a device does not meet those standards, it can:

  • Affect network performance
  • Make it harder for other devices to connect
  • Create issues across the mobile network
  • Fail to meet Australian regulatory requirements

For that reason, the device must be removed from the network unless the issue is resolved.

What you need to do

You’ll need to stop using the affected device on the mobile network and move your ALDI Mobile SIM into a compatible device that meets Australian requirements.

In most cases, this means:

  • Finding out which device your SIM is in
  • Replacing that device with a compliant one
  • Or moving your SIM into another compatible device you already own

Any dates or deadlines will be included in the message we sent you.

What happens once your device is blocked

If the affected device is still being used after the deadline in our message, it may be blocked from the mobile network.

When that happens, it will no longer be able to:

  • Make or receive calls
  • Send or receive SMS
  • Use mobile data
  • Access the mobile network in any way

Important: only the device is affected, not your ALDI Mobile service.

Using your service after your device is blocked

  • Your ALDI Mobile account, mobile number and any plan or allowances will remain active.
  • To keep using your service, you’ll need to move your SIM card into a compatible device that meets Australian requirements.
  • If the affected MSN is still being used in a non-compliant device after the date in our message, your service may be disconnected at a later date.

FAQs

What kinds of devices can be affected?

Devices like this are often not mobile phones. They can include:

  • Security or CCTV cameras with SIM cards
  • Smart gates or solar gates
  • Vehicle or asset trackers
  • IoT or M2M devices used for monitoring or remote control

Some of these devices may use hardware that was not made or certified for use on Australian mobile networks.

Can this be fixed?

In most cases, no.

This is usually a hardware issue, not a settings issue. A software update or change to your service will not fix it.

The only solution is to stop using the affected device on the mobile network and move your SIM to a compatible device.

How can I tell if a replacement device is compatible?

When choosing a new device, make sure it is suitable for use on Australian mobile networks.

  • Buy from a reputable Australian retailer or supplier.
  • Check that the device is advertised as compatible with Australian mobile networks.
  • Confirm it supports the required mobile bands.
  • Avoid devices that appear to be grey-market imports or do not clearly state Australian compatibility.

If you’re not sure, check with the retailer or manufacturer before you buy.

What happens if I don't move to a compatible device?

If you do not move your service to a compatible device by 23 October 2026, your ALDI Mobile service will be terminated in accordance with our prepaid mobile terms and conditions.

I rely on this device for my daily use. What should I do?

If the affected device is the one you use every day, such as your phone, tablet or mobile broadband modem, you should replace it as soon as possible.

Contact the retailer or manufacturer and ask them to:

  • Confirm whether your device is affected.
  • Recommend a compatible replacement.
  • Help you move your SIM or service to the new device.

Do not wait until the blocking date, as replacement can take time.

What if I can’t replace it in time?

Please contact our customer service team as soon as you can.

We’ll explain your options and help where possible.

Can I port my service to another provider?

Yes, you are free to port your service to another provider if you wish. Please be aware that if your device is blocked due to non-compliance with Australian regulatory requirements, this issue will generally transfer with your service to the new provider, as they will be subject to the same regulatory standards.

In some cases, a device may be blocked solely due to differences in carrier-specific transmission bands; however, we are unable to provide advice or comment on another provider’s network requirements or device policies.
