From 1 July 2026
New Australian Government rules mean SMS sender names are checked against the SMS Sender ID Register, a government initiative designed to help protect people from impersonation scams.
What are SMS sender names?
Many businesses and organisations send SMS using a sender name instead of a phone number. When ALDI Mobile sends you an SMS, it appears as “ALDI Mobile” rather than a regular mobile number, so it is easier to recognise who the message is from.
Scammers can use fake sender names to make their messages look like they are coming from a trusted brand or organisation.
About the SMS Sender ID Register
The SMS Sender ID Register is managed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). It lists registered sender names and helps telcos label messages from unregistered sender names as “Unverified”, making impersonation scams easier to spot.
Like other businesses, ALDI Mobile is registered with ACMA through an approved messaging partner, so our verified sender name won’t appear separately on ACMA’s public list of certified issuing telcos.
How it looks on your phone
When we send you an SMS, it will appear from our registered sender name, “ALDI Mobile”. You may have previously received messages from different sender names or phone numbers, but now all our SMS messages will come from “ALDI Mobile”.
If a sender name is not registered on the SMS Sender ID Register, it will appear as “Unverified” on your phone. “Unverified” senders may be grouped together in a single message thread to make them easier to spot.

How it works
- Messages from organisations that have registered their sender name will appear as normal.
- Messages from organisations that have not registered their sender name will appear as “Unverified”.
- These protections do not affect personal messages from individuals, such as friends and family.
Unverified messages
If you receive an SMS from an unverified sender, it may be:
- a scam message; or
- a legitimate message from an organisation that has not registered its SMS Sender ID.
To protect yourself:
- Never interact with suspicious messages.
- Do not click links or use contact details in the message.
- Independently verify the sender by contacting the organisation through its official website, app or other contact methods.

SMS Sender ID Register FAQs
Can I look up the SMS Sender ID Register myself?
No. The full SMS Sender ID Register is not a public list that you can search. It is a behind-the-scenes tool used by approved telcos and message providers to check and manage sender IDs. If you’re curious, ACMA publishes a list of approved telcos and message providers who participate in the Register on its website.
Why can’t I see ALDI Mobile on ACMA’s SMS Sender ID pages?
ACMA’s public information focuses on telcos and message providers, not every individual business or brand that sends SMS. ALDI Mobile is treated like any other organisation that uses branded sender IDs – our “ALDI Mobile” sender name is registered through approved telco partners, rather than being listed separately on a public register.
Do I need to check the Register before trusting a message?
No. You don’t need to look up the register to work out if a message is safe. From 1 July 2026, your phone will show messages from organisations that are not registered as “Unverified”, and group them together so they are easier to spot. If you are ever unsure about a message, don’t click links. Instead, contact the organisation using their official website, app or published phone number.
Can my ALDI Mobile service be included in the SMS Sender ID Register?
No. We do not offer SMS Sender ID registration as a feature for ALDI Mobile services. If you need to register a sender ID, you’ll need to do that through an approved message provider that offers SMS Sender ID registration.
